COVID-19 Impact on the Indian Culture Sector

PROJECT

INFORMATION

OVERVIEW

The British Council is the UK’s international organisation for cultural relations and educational opportunities. FICCI is the largest and oldest apex business organisation in India. The Taking the Temperature Report has been developed in partnership by the British Council, Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FICCI) and the Art X Company.

BRIEF

To track and record the impact of COVID-19 on the creative economy in India.

APPROACH SUGGESTED

The Art X Company advised on the development of a survey to document the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on arts companies, individual artists, managers and stakeholders. Art X was also instrumental in sharing the survey with arts networks along with FICCI and the British Council, to poll a wide range of stakeholders.

OUTCOME

The first edition of the report provides a snapshot of the situation in India since the outbreak of COVID-19 and the consequent lockdown, from late March 2020 up until early June 2020. the second edition of the report (published in December 2020) looks at the depth and scale of the impact of the pandemic, and studies the developments, actions, and recommendations that will strengthen the creative economy. The report provides insights on the impact of the pandemic on the creative sector by tracing and reporting developments,

The third and final round of the survey is now closed. We'll update the report with our findings shortly.
